YouTube does, which is the reason it is most likely illegal. Public broadcast are explicitly different because they have not the explicit clause informing viewers that recordings are not allowed. YouTube states that there videos are not allowed to be recorded or downloaded outside of YouTube specific terms such as YouTube premium, thus the artist doesn’t give permission to anyone to download there content. In order to not violate copyright artist permission is needed. The reason people say mp3 conversion is illegal is the following: illegal downloads are downloads that violate copyright. If the music is a live stream, and the stream is streaming the music legally it is allowed to record the music for your own use.
You are unlikely to get caught but downloading is very much not legal anymore.Įssentially music downloads are illegal. My sister burned herself a cd some 10 years ago and got into big trouble because of it. More importantly though the act of downloading said content has been seen as proof of the will to distribute in some cases. Pretty sure that extends to music as well. So nowadays if you stream from illegal spurces it is actually illegal for you. They changed a European law some years ago that closed that loophole at the very least for movie streaming.
